Trip Highlights:
The trail to Sol Duc Falls begins beyond the Sol Duc Hot Springs and Resort, at the end of the road. The impressive Sol Duc Hotel once stood at the site of the current hot springs and resort. Opened in 1912, the five-star hotel and resort drew crowds from all over the world until it was destroyed by fire in 1920.
The Lover's Lane trail follows the Sol Duc river upstream, connecting to Sol Duc campground, Sol Duc Falls and the resort/ hot spring. The first section of trail is easy and beautiful as you meander through dense luschious under story. As you proceed upstream, the trail steepens moving further from the river and deeper into a beautiful forest of towering Douglas-firs, hemlocks, and a few Sitka spruce. It continues to climb steeply to Sol Duc falls, visible from a bridge in an impressively lush canyon. Cross the bridge, stop for some photos, and return to via the trailhead on the other side of the river to catch a soak at the hot springs.
