Trip Highlights:
Join us for one of the most-traveled hikes in all of Yosemite: the iconic Mist Trail and Nevada Fall Loop experience. This iconic hike starts at the eastern end of Yosemite Valley and follows the Merced River up and out of the Valley, directly beside and to the tops of two major waterfalls: Vernal Fall and Nevada Fall. Also, in the spring, you can catch a view of a third waterfall, Illouette Fall, on the first uphill section of this hike. It's also in the Spring (or into mid-summer on high snowpack years) that this trail lives up to its name, and when you have the opportunity to get wet from the mist while ascending beside Vernal Fall. Don't miss the rainbows along the way. Excellent viewpoints are endless as you ascend this trail by both falls. Take a break at Emerald Pool above Vernal Fall and before crossing the Silver Apron Bridge, where you are awarded with your first views of Nevada Fall. After ascending the final switchbacks beside Nevada Fall, you will have the chance to cross the bridge just above Nevada Fall's drop-off point. Take a much-needed lunch break and cool-off session by the shores of the Merced River above the falls. You will complete your circle and return to the valley via the famous John Muir Trail, which offers new perspectives and additional iconic views of both waterfalls you just hiked alongside. All tours are private.

To start off the day, you will meet your guide at 8 a.m. at the Curry Village Tour Kiosk in Yosemite Valley. After brief introductions, safety warnings and precautions, and a brief overview of the day, we will begin the hike warming up with a sociable, short, flat and paved mile to the Mist Trail trailhead near Happy Isles visitor center. This is where the uphill charge begins.
From Happy Isles, it is a strenuous mile trek on a paved trail to the base of Vernal Fall, where there will be public restrooms and running water for use. The next ½ mile following takes us up a steep and strenuous misty, granite staircase alongside 317-foot Vernal Fall, ascending a quick 400 vertical feet. Be prepared to get wet during this long but gorgeous half mile. Reaching the top of the stair-like Mist Trail brings us atop Vernal Fall where you will see the stunning waterfall from nearly every possible perspective. After admiring the gorgeous scenery and a brief history of the area, we will continue another strenuous mile ascending 600 vertical feet to reach the top of the 594-foot Nevada Fall. This mile brings us alongside the waterfall up a more strenuous and less distinct granite staircase than the first, but will luckily be our last rocky hiking of the day. We will enjoy a relaxation break here at the top of the powerful Nevada Fall, taking time to enjoy the unmatched natural landmarks and sites from our vantage point as we eat lunch.
We will continue on an easy and flat ½ mile or so to the John Muir Trail/Panorama Trail Junction, where we will conquer our last uphill trek. From here, we descend 2,000 feet along the 3.5-mile-long John Muir Trail.
The John Muir trail follows the Merced River from the south, whereas the Mist Trail stays north of the river. The higher vantage John Muir Trail offers unique perspectives of Nevada Fall, the abrupt rise of Liberty Cap, and the South face of the famous Half Dome, and is a much less stressful hike down than that of the rocky staircases of the Mist Trail. The John Muir Trail will return us to the bridge at the base of Vernal Fall where you will once again find public restrooms and running water. The next mile backtracks us a mile down the familiar paved trail to Happy Isles. Once in Happy Isles, we will cool down with a short mile alongside the valley’s road to Curry Village, where our day will end right where it began.
Your participation helps sustain our non-profit mission of supporting youth, families, and disadvantaged communities with positive experiences in America’s National Parks and natural spaces.
Yes, we book all of our Day Hikes as private and do not have an option to join a group. The only exception is our Half Dome in a Day hike in Yosemite, which allows up to 5 guests and 1 guide per trip.
Unfortunately, no, we do not schedule half-day tours. However, as every Day Hike is private, you can modify and customize your day with the guide as needed upon meeting and/or throughout the tour. For example, if you need (or prefer) to end at a specific time, just let the guide know when you meet, and they can make that happen.
Yes, and lucky you, as you will have a private guide for that day.
Yes, see here for our Day Hike Equipment List.
Our Guides will supply trekking poles, the gloves for Half Dome cables, and will also carry first-aid supplies and water purification devices for water along the way. They also carry bathroom supplies (toilet paper, trowel, hand sanitizer), bug repellent, suntan lotion, and they are always armed with fun, natural facts and stories from the park.
No, and we suggest you bring your own trail lunch, snacks, and full water bottles.
Yes, parking is always available at our meeting point, and your vehicle can remain there throughout the day.
Although past clients have said they were glad they rented a vehicle, there are limited public transportation options for most of the trips we offer in Yosemite. See here for additional information: Yosemite Transportation Options.

Tremendous Experience - Five Stars Highly Recommend. Tremendous experience. Cara was a wonderful guide. She shared her knowledge of the Park, the trails, fauna and flora. She contacted us the day before the hike to share information on the meeting place, what we should bring, set expectations and answered all our questions. We laughed, shared stories and had a throughly enjoyable day. She also gave us some suggestions on other hikes in the park we might enjoy. She was well prepared with some snacks, first aide kit and bathroom kit.

Hard but so worth it This is a hard trail but doable.. you do get wet but it felt great with the heat. Many people had ponchos but for the short amount of time your wet we chose not to pack them. There are bathrooms along the way which is really nice since there are so many people around that there is no chance of scooting behind a bush. And we saw a bear!!

Highly recommended! We booked a Lasting Adventures guided winter hike in Yosemite National Park. The booking process through Viator went very smoothly and we made email contact with the company in the days before our hike, requesting trekking poles to use.Our guide, August, met us right on time in the front office of Yosemite Valley Lodge and we discussed our hiking options. Deciding to hike to to the top of Nevada Falls, we set off together. August was knowledgeable and looked after us very well. He had a thorough knowledge of Yosemite Valley trails and was able to steer us clear of the ones that were closed. While we were hiking he gave us some of the history of the valley and told us about the ecology of the forests. When one of the trails we wanted to take was unexpectedly closed, August was able to offer other suggestions and we set off for Clark’s Point on the Muir Trail instead. Even though we’re quite experienced hikers, was great to have a knowledgeable guide with us to tell us about the area and share his personal stories. We were lucky enough to encounter a coyote on the descent, which is apparently very rare in the valley. Without a guide with us, we wouldn’t have known just how rare it was. I wish we’d organised ourselves a bit better and booked Lasting Adventures to take us to the Sequoia groves as well. Oh well, maybe next time.Would thoroughly recommend Lasting Adventures to enhance your hiking experience in Yosemite. So glad we booked them.

Fantastic Day Hike with Lasting Adventures! Our family of three did the Nevada Fall Loop hike with Matt as our guide. Not only was Matt extremely knowledgable and friendly, he was very patient with my constant picture taking and mediocre pace. He engaged our 12 year old son and made this rather hard hike truly fun for all of us. Matt shared lots of interesting facts about Yosemite, wildlife and flora in the area. Highly recommend Lasting Adventures, as they were extremely professional and responsive from the booking process to the day of our excursion. Fabulous memories made on this hike!

A lasting memory That day I was the only person who had booked the tour, so I had a private guide! The guide, James, was very nice and helpful and also a very good photographer. He planned the hike in such a way that it suited my wishes and capabilities. I enjoyed the Mist Trail and Vernal Falls, and the view of Nevada Falls. Apart from that we went to Mirror Lake and enjoyed many views on the Half Dome, Sentinel, North Dome etc. Although it was expensive to book the tour as a solo traveller, I think it was well worth it. I would not have enjoyed Yosemite as much on my own.

Mist trail and Vernal falls and viewing others like El Cap and Half Dome make this a must! Lasting adventures provided a great day tour, we booked expecting to be part of a group but due to the other groups booking private tours we also ended up on our own private tour!We found the guide to be pleasant helpful and informative and felt we got a lot more out of our day than had we gone on our own. We were able to stop for photos as and when and the guide made a point of checking we were going at a pace that suited us. We were able to see a lot of specific areas and made use of the buses to skip the parts where there wasn't as much to see! Checking out half dome and El Cap definately inspired us to want to go back and maybe hike them specifically Unfortunately we didn't see any bears but spotted deer, and lads of ground squirels and numerous birds.I would happily recommend anyone wanting to get the most out of a day tour to go with Lasting AdventuresThis was like walking in Postcards - Well worth visiting

A fulfilling two days with lasting adventures Me and a friend visited Yosemite in the fall of of 2018. We signed up for the Nevada Falls Loop. Being city kids, we didn’t know where to go and what to expect. Nicole, our guide, really took care of us. She was knowledgeable and friendly, and made us feel very comfortable. The hike turned out to be one of the most beautiful experiences of our lives. We immediately asked Nicole to take us on another trail the very next day. We completely left it to her to recommend where to take us, based on our fitness and tastes. The results was equally rewarding: the glacier point - tarf point trail. Just wanna thank lasting adventures, and especially our asskicking -rock-climbing-babe guide Nicole for showing us such a awesome time. We had a short but completely rewarding three day’s in Yosemite. :)
Our High Expectations were Exceeded by Lasting Adventures During our time in Yosemite we had Lasting Adventures lead us on three day hikes - Yosemite Valley Tour with the Mist Trail, Toulumne Meadows Tour and Clouds Rest. Our guides, James and Nick, were well versed in the history of the area, the hiking trails and are highly skilled outdoorsmen. Both were thoroughly enjoyable to get to know. Lasting Adventures is a first class organization. Every interaction was professional and they promptly responded to all of our questions. They tailored each of our hikes to our preferences and abilities. I wish they operated in other National Parks. I recommend them without reservation.
