Lasting Adventures is a nonprofit that operates a variety of backcountry programs which utilize Adventure Based Programming as a means of making personal connections with the environment and the world around us. We facilitate youth backpacking summer camps, adventure-based outdoor education programs, corporate adventure programs, family adventures as well as custom backpacking and day trips. We work to ensure our programs are meaningful, supportive, educational and fun.
We accept applications on a rolling basis, until all positions are filled. We strive to hire exceptional and professional individuals who share a passion for the outdoors and want to share that passion with others. Applicants should meet our basic requirements below, and we prefer those who have had prior similar work experiences and/or training in the past.
Minimum Requirements for Counselors/Guides:
- Able to legally work in the United States (unfortunately, we are not an H2B Visa Employer)
- A minimum of 21 years old (18+ for Interns)
- Current Wilderness First Responder certification (or higher; Wilderness First Aid for Interns) and current CPR
- California Food Handlers Certificate
- Reliable Transportation to/from work.
- Solid communication and leadership skills
- Advanced skills and knowledge in backpacking/hiking and related gear
- Knowledge of Yosemite history, geology, plants, and wildlife (or a passion to learn it quickly)
- Advanced backcountry cooking skills
- Outstanding customer service skills
- Passing a pre-employment background check
- College degree in a related field (ex. Recreation, Environmental Studies, Youth Development, etc.) is also desirable
- Ability to attend a mandatory training during the first week of June
Our Administrative staff are the backbone of our operation, managing and assisting guide staff with all their needs. We have two Program Directors, a Marketing Manager, a Gear and Intern Manager, an Operations Director, and an Executive Director. While we don’t expect to hire for any of these positions for 2021, check back regularly for updates.
Program Manager: The Program Manager positions are responsible for staff training, supervision, and development. Program Managers are responsible for educating staff on our programming and curriculum. For a position statement, click here: Program Manager Position Statement.
Gear/Intern Manager: The Gear/Intern Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day operation of our Gear/Prep room, by assisting staff with finding equipment/items, maintaining adequate supplies of equipment and consumables, and providing a structured framework of trip prep and de-prep for guide/summer camp staff. They are also responsible for our Internship Program, and provide our Interns with training, schedules, and regular meetings/check-ins and lessons on topics relevant to the Lasting Adventures Program. Summer Camp/Assistant Guide Staff
Our Guide Staff begin as Summer Camp Counselors on our flagship summer camp program, which begins June 16th with mandatory staff training and runs to mid-August. Counselors can expect an average of 15-20 days of work per month; some months may have more or less work than others. Pending availability and success of our summer camp program, some guides will have the opportunity to work as Assistant Guides on our Guide Service program on Backpacking and Day Trips. Lasting Adventures also accepts resumes for those looking for a great outdoor internship. Interns will work beginning with our mandatory staff training in early June, and will go through August. We offer one Marketing and Administrative Internship and five Operations and Logistics Internships. If you are interested in any of our positions please complete our Online Application (link) (currently closed). This application is only open from November 1st through early March each year. A free Google account is required to use the online application. You will need to have a completed Resume and Cover Letter before beginning the application process. Once started, the application can’t be closed/resumed. However, applications can be edited after submission (until the application period closes) by following a link in the response acknowledgement sent after submission.

For 2021, we expect to have our application open by November 1st, 2020. Hiring is expected to be completed by early March, 2021.
