🥾 How Chris Got Into the Outdoors

Chris grew up playing sports, running around outside, and exploring local parks. As he got older, hiking became a go-to activity, and eventually, backpacking opened the door to deeper wilderness adventures. “I wanted to explore more — without being tied to a campground or parking lot,” he says.

🌟 Why Guiding?

Chris was inspired by a college teammate who started guiding in Colorado. After visiting him, Chris was hooked. “It gave me the chance to explore new places every summer while still teaching during the school year,” he explains. The best part? Guiding has become a way to turn exploration into purpose — by helping others connect with the outdoors, too. 🏕️

🌍 Excited to Join Lasting Adventures

What’s he most excited about this season?
“The exchange of insider tips with other guides and guests,” he says. “There’s always something new to learn about the best places to explore — in the U.S. or around the world.” 🌎💬

🐾 Inner Beast

If Chris were an animal, he’d be an Australian Shepherd — loyal, energetic, hardworking, and always ready to go on the next adventure with friends and family. 🐕

⚽ Other Outdoor Passions

When he’s not guiding, you’ll probably find Chris:

🔥 Cooking fajitas over a camp stove

⚽ Playing soccer

🛶 Kayaking or paddleboarding

🎶 Trail Tune That Gets Stuck in His Head

“I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)” by The Proclaimers — and if you’ve hiked a few miles with this song looping in your brain, you know the feeling. 😂🎵

🏞️ Favorite Views in the Parks

Chris has a soft spot for the sunset views of the sea stacks or the sweeping views of the Strait from Hurricane Ridge in Olympic National Park. “Unreal,” he says. 🌅🌊

🧭 What Guides Really Provide

According to Chris, the most valuable thing a guide brings is comfort and confidence:

“We help guests feel secure — knowing where we are, what to expect, and how to respond if something happens. And of course, we’re full of fun facts and decent stories too!” 📚😄

🎒 Gear Advice from Chris

  • Must-Bring: A quality jacket for warmth and rain protection 🧥
  • Leave Behind: “The worries… or the screen.” 🙌📵

💬 Mentors and Values

Chris credits his college teammate and fellow raft guide, Zach Bopp, as a major influence — someone who helped shape his love for adventure and the outdoors.

As for what makes a great guide?
Chris believes all guides should be:

  • 🤝 Personable
  • 🧠 Knowledgeable
  • 🔄 Adaptable

(“Being punctual doesn’t hurt either,” he adds.)

Welcome to the team, Chris! We’re excited to have you bring your energy, knowledge, and adventurous spirit to Lasting Adventures this season. 🥳🌲
