Trip Highlights:
El Capitan (sometimes shortened to El Cap) is one of the largest granite monoliths in the world. From the people that called this valley home, to the first time it was glimpsed by non-indigenous people saw it, to its first climbing ascent, to the famous National Geographic "Free Solo" attempt made by Alex Honnold, this iconic exposed face has inspired the urge to summit. Are you ready to stand at its peak?

Begin the day on the Yosemite Falls trail, across the main road from the Yosemite Valley Lodge. Over the first 3 miles, you’ll gain more than 3,000 feet of elevation, with sweeping views of Yosemite Valley, Half Dome, and Yosemite Falls. At this point, the trail splits, turning into a walk through the woods; passing meadows, crossing creeks, and enjoying the wildlife of the North Rim of Yosemite Valley. Continuing along the rim, the trail breaks out of the trees and gives you a taste of the views you’ll get from the peak. One final push through the trees and up a hill and you’ll be standing at the top of El Capitan…but that isn’t the end! Although we do not suggest approaching the cliff edge, we are able to travel down the hill a ways to get some shade and eat lunch while enjoying the panoramic views across the valley. This is the same view climbers get when they top out and turn around to take a break before beginning their hike back down to the valley floor.
After lunch, you’ll turn around and reverse the route you used to summit, enjoying a completely different lighting, altering the colors in the rocks and trees and giving you a beautiful view of the eastern end of Yosemite Valley. After a quick descent back to the parking lot, you can head home with an unforgettable adventure tucked away in your memory.
Your participation helps sustain our non-profit mission of supporting youth, families, and disadvantaged communities with positive experiences in America’s National Parks and natural spaces.
Yes, we book all of our Day Hikes as private and do not have an option to join a group. The only exception is our Half Dome in a Day hike in Yosemite, which allows up to 5 guests and 1 guide per trip.
Unfortunately, no, we do not schedule half-day tours. However, as every Day Hike is private, you can modify and customize your day with the guide as needed upon meeting and/or throughout the tour. For example, if you need (or prefer) to end at a specific time, just let the guide know when you meet, and they can make that happen.
Yes, and lucky you, as you will have a private guide for that day.
Yes, see here for our Day Hike Equipment List.
Our Guides will supply trekking poles, the gloves for Half Dome cables, and will also carry first-aid supplies and water purification devices for water along the way. They also carry bathroom supplies (toilet paper, trowel, hand sanitizer), bug repellent, suntan lotion, and they are always armed with fun, natural facts and stories from the park.
No, and we suggest you bring your own trail lunch, snacks, and full water bottles.
Yes, parking is always available at our meeting point, and your vehicle can remain there throughout the day.
Although past clients have said they were glad they rented a vehicle, there are limited public transportation options for most of the trips we offer in Yosemite. See here for additional information: Yosemite Transportation Options.

Yosemite: 8 awesome day hikes Awesome experience with Lasting Adventures. I would definitely highly recommend them if you are planning a trip to Yosemite. My guides and treks were some of the best I have ever had. Looking forward to returning some day to see more of the park.
The best private hiking guide! My husband and I had a private day hiking tour with Eric. We did the 4 mile trial, panorama trail and mist trail and had the most incredible day. From the very first meeting with Eric on the day of starting our hike we knew we were in for a great day! Any question we had about Yosemite, Eric could answer!! And he filled the day with lots of fun facts and information about all kinds of things within the park. He was also great at just knowing when to let us enjoy the moment and take it in, but could also fill in the day with fun conversation too. We would never have learnt so much, or seen as much as we did in the day without him. Would absolutely recommend Eric and lasting adventures to anyone looking for a guide within Yosemite.
Tremendous Tour Experience! I have been to Yosemite as a kid and adult, and returned this summer to bring my wife and our 6 & 9 year old sons. We elected to hire a guide to make sure we saw as much of the valley as possible while keeping our young kids interested in the journey. Best decision we could have made. Will from Lasting Adventures was a wealth of knowledge on the parks history, plants, trees, wildlife, hidden gems and so much more. We walked away feeling like the value was incredible and both boys want to go back, and bring Will and his family with us!
Fantastic hike up Yosemite Falls, Highly recommend Nick Lange as a guide. Nick Lange was a great guide. He gave us lots of good advice in preparation and entertained us with stories to keep our mind off the grind up the switchbacks. He has a great passion for the area and enjoys sharing that with his charges (young & old).
Unforgettable day with Guide Jack from Lasting Adventures We had the pleasure of being guided by Jack on our visit of Yosemite. We thoroughly appreciated his knowledge on the nature, geology and history of the natural park. Jack was insightful in sharing the culture of the climbing community he is a part of and kind enough to demonstrate all of his material and equipment. He took the time to ensure our expectations where reasonably met, allowing us to make the most of our day in Yosemite. We proudly recommend Jack as a tour guide for families looking to spend an unforgettable day at Yosemite Natural Park.
Yosemite Valley Private Hike - family of 4 A perfect way to start our adventure in Yosemite! Our guide Kate was knowledgeable and fun -- she adapted our trip to be the best for our family, sharing great background and history, and throwing in some adventure along the way for our teens. The number of sites you can see just within the valley is incredible, and beginning with a full day of valley exploration with a knowledgeable guide helped us plan the rest of our time in the park. Kate even texted a follow-up email with recommendations based on our time together. Amazing-- a must do!

zach is the best! My husband & I went with Zach yesterday & had the best time ever. He was such a great story teller sharing all the first nation history with us. His rock climbing knowledge actually sparked us to watch a new documentary last night. It was unforgettable & would recommend this to anyone because it truly is customized to your wants!
Great Private Day Hike with Dyson! Our guide Dyson took our family on a 2 consecutive days for hikes throughout Yosemite. He was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. He helped motivate the kids into doing the tough Mist Trail and Nevada Fall Loop which there likely wouldn't have done without him being our leader. The views were amazing! I would highly recomend their company and especially Dyson!
Perfect way to experience Yosemite! Our family of 5 (including 3 teenagers) had an incredible day! We saw so much of Yosemite Valley! Well worth the cost and our guide Ian was fantastic. He took us to the best spots, navigated around the crowds and was so engaging. His knowledge of the history of the park made the day full of so many interesting moments and he definitely adapted to the interest and pace our family wanted. We only had two days in the park, so I would highly recommend this if you want to maximize your time and see as much of the park as you can!
Awesome walking tour Our guide, Dyson, was amazing. He had lots of energy, was very knowledgeable and really catered to the four of us. He is a bright guy and made our walking tour (14 miles worth for some 35+ year olds!) seem short. Would definitely recommend Dyson and Lasting Adventures.
