Glacier Point Down the 4-Mile Trail Yosemite hiking trip is a great hike for visitors looking to experience the grandeur of the Yosemite high country from Glacier Point then descend the 4-Mile Trail which offers incomparable views of El Capitan -the largest granite monolith in the world and mecca for rock climbers. After an informational shuttle tour to Glacier Point, your guide will point out Yosemite’s most iconic features including Yosemite Valley, Half Dome, Yosemite, Vernal and Nevada Falls and more. Our hike then takes us mostly downhill for 4.7 miles before returning to the Valley proper where we will cross the Merced River and return to the Yosemite Lodge via the “Swinging Bridge”. If time permits we tour the base of Yosemite Falls.

The Glacier Point hike will begin when you meet your guide at the Yosemite Lodge (across from Yosemite Falls in Yosemite Valley) at 8:00am in order to catch the morning tour bus to Glacier Point. It is about an hour to an hour and a half ride filled with historical and environmental information regarding Yosemite National Park’s past, present and future.
Upon reaching our destination, your mind will be blown away by the incredible views of Half Dome, Vernal Fall, Nevada Fall, Yosemite Falls, Cloud’s Rest and much more! After a tour atop Glacier Point, we will begin our 3000-foot descent, 4.7 mile hike down the switchback themed 4-mile Trail back into Yosemite Valley. This is one of the early pioneer trails built within the park and offers amazing views of the enormous granite monoloth El Capitan the whole way down. We will stop for some pictures and lunch at Union Point before dropping the final 2-miles to the Valley.
We will end our day with a level hike along the Merced and across the “Swinging Bridge” before returning to the Yosemite Lodge. As time permits- we will cross the road from the Yosemite Lodge and tour the base of Yosemite Falls.

Guides carry first aid kits, water purification methods, toilet paper (for emergencies), suntan lotion and bug repellent. Please plan to bring your own lunch, snacks, water bottles, etc. Remember, all profits from our guided trips go towards supporting our youth summer camp program.
Note: Should weather, fire, and/or delayed seasonal openings affect the chosen itinerary, a different itinerary will be offered. You will be kept in contact throughout this process. On some occasions when the 8:30 bus is unavailable, we will book the 10:00am bus and begin our hike by exploring the base of Yosemite Falls.
