Highlights: For a relatively easy hike that the entire family will enjoy while taking in incredible views of the Yosemite high country’s most iconic features, look no further than the Glacier Point to Sentinel Dome and Taft Point hike. We begin the day with a tour of the world-renown Glacier Point which looks down into Yosemite Valley giving you a whole new perspective of the park than you get from hiking tours down in the valley. Afterward, you will experience the accomplishment of reaching the top of an “easy Half Dome” when we summit Sentinel Dome at 8,122′ and take in a 360 degree view of Yosemite. Then, following a mellow hike, we will reach Taft Point and the Fissures where those who are daring can stand at a railing that looks straight down a 3,000 foot vertical cliff. While this tour is an amazing stand alone hike, it is also a great compliment to the Yosemite Valley Tour for those looking to spend two days hiking taking in both the Yosemite Valley and high country. All tours are private.
Meeting Location: Glacier Point at 7,214′
High Point: Sentinel Dome at 8,122′
Elevation Gain: 908′
Unlike any of our other trips, we will begin and end our day atop Yosemite’s Glacier Point. This means you must have personal transportation in order to reach the Glacier Point parking lot. We will meet at 8:30am along the walkway from the parking lot towards the Point. We will start the day off by touring Glacier Point, discussing the landmark’s historical and natural importance as well as enjoying the awe-inspiring views of the unmatched natural beauty of Half Dome, Vernal Fall, Clouds Rest, Nevada Fall, Yosemite Falls and much more.
After enjoying a brilliant morning around Glacier Point we will start the hike off with the most strenuous, uphill 1.2 miles of the trek, which will bring us to the highest point of the trip at Sentinel Dome’s peak of 8122′. A terrific 360-degree perspective of Yosemite Valley, Tuolumne High Country, and the Clark Range are offered here. From this peak we will begin making our way toward Taft Point, a mostly downhill and level 2.5 miles descending about 600 vertical feet from Sentinel Dome. Taft Point will provide unmatched views of El Capitan, the world’s eighth largest monolith, Yosemite’s largest waterfall system, 2425′ Yosemite Falls, and much more. Explore and get close to the Fissures if you dare. Taft Point is our final destination, but only our half-way point, meaning that from here we will back track 3.2 miles to Glacier Point, a pretty mild hike to end the day.
This hike offers a whole new, bird’s-eye perspective of Yosemite Valley and amazing views of the Yosemite High Country, making it a great compliment to our Yosemite Valley Tour for those looking to book two day trips in Yosemite.
