Adventure Enrichment Camp for students exiting grades 9-12
An opportunity to explore how human, animal, and environmental health are linked while backpacking through the backcountry of Yosemite National Park.
This week-long camp will use the natural laboratory of Yosemite National Park to investigate and explore the concepts of One Health from a veterinary perspective. One Health is the scientific premise that environmental health, human health, and animal health are inextricably linked and promotes collaboration among scientists, physicians, and veterinarians to improve the well-being of all species. This course will introduce fundamental concepts and field techniques in the overlapping areas of environmental science, epidemiology, wildlife conservation and management, and veterinary medicine. Activities may include wildlife tracking and observation, ecosystem mapping, and epidemiological case studies and games. Group orientation on the first day will cover maps, equipment and information about Yosemite.
This trip is led by Nina Quinley DVM, MPVM, a practicing veterinarian with experience in both small animal medicine & wildlife and One Health, and Bekah Shepard Ph.D, geologist and science educator, along with Lasting Adventures experienced outdoor Guides.
